The weather front that affected the Metropolitan Region on Tuesday, October 13 forced Santiago Metro to operate Line 2 with partial service. It also closed two Line 1 stations as a precaution because of leaks and water accumulating at entrances and on platforms.
According to Cooperativa, the most difficult situation was on Line 2. The company split the service into separate sections, leaving three stations in the central section out of operation.
Metro’s Communications and Sustainability Manager, Paulina del Campo, specified that the northern section was operating from Vespucio Norte to Los Héroes and that, in the south, service ran from Franklin to Hospital El Pino station.
On Line 1, at 17:13, Metro reported on its X account that Pedro de Valdivia station was completely closed and trains were passing through without stopping. Salvador remained closed to incoming passengers and open only for passengers to exit, according to CNN Chile.
Following clearing work carried out after the most intense phase of the storm, the company confirmed that service had fully returned to normal at Salvador and Pedro de Valdivia, according to Cooperativa.
To address the emergency, Metro deployed technical crews and motor pumps at various points across the network. Del Campo explained that teams on the ground were moving pumps to drain the water more quickly and urged those continuing to use the network to move with great caution.
The sources consulted do not provide a forecast for how long the rain will last or an estimated reopening time for the central section of Line 2. The executive announced that Metro would report any changes in operations through its official channels as the rainfall develops.
