La Moneda Cultural Center will remain temporarily closed and has suspended all activities until further notice, according to El Mostrador. The decision followed a fire that broke out on the morning of Thursday, October 8, in the center's building in Santiago.

The fire started in a duct at Cívico restaurant, which operates inside the same building. Chile's Fire Service brought the emergency under control. The source did not report whether anyone was injured or the extent of the damage.

The suspension includes the Feria Malqueridas, which was scheduled for October 10 and 11. The closure also affects all businesses operating in the building.

In a statement, the institution explained that the space will remain closed "while inspections of the building are carried out and preventive safety measures are implemented". It added that the aim is to protect the public, its workers and its tenants.

If you had plans to visit the cultural center or attend the fair this weekend, no alternative date has been announced so far. There were also no details about what will happen with tickets or registrations for the suspended activities.

La Moneda Cultural Center will announce the reopening date on its social media accounts (@ccplm) once inspections are complete and conditions for welcoming the public again have been confirmed.
