A man was found dead, bound hand and foot and with around 20 gunshot wounds, in the upper part of Viña del Mar. According to initial information, the crime occurred early Tuesday morning. The Homicide Brigade (BH) of the Investigative Police (PDI) in Valparaíso is leading the investigation.

T13 reported the discovery, placing it in Reñaca Alto. ADN Radio located the site in Lajarilla, a rugged area in the upper part of the municipality. Personnel from the Legal Medical Service (SML) also arrived at the scene.

Prosecutor José Antonio Uribe, head of the Criminal Analysis and Complex Cases System in the Valparaíso region, said the victim was a young man with 20 gunshot wounds, particularly to the skull, which killed him at the scene.

Uribe added that the body had bindings on the hands and feet. "This homicide is clearly an execution. The person was bound, immobilized and had more than 20 gunshot wounds to his body from different weapons," he said.

Subprefect Rodrigo Gallardo, head of the Valparaíso BH, explained that the victim has not yet been identified (he is registered as NN) and is believed to be a man aged between 20 and 30. The PDI is attempting to identify him through his fingerprints.

According to Gallardo’s preliminary information, the events occurred between 00:00 and 00:30. Residents in the area notified emergency services, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office subsequently learned of the case and ordered the BH to attend the scene.

At the crime scene, detectives recovered between 20 and 30 cartridge cases and projectiles for ballistic examinations. Gallardo said the evidence and the position of the body suggest the execution may have taken place at that same location.

So far, no one has been arrested or charged, and the sources have reported neither a motive nor a case number. According to Prosecutor Uribe, investigators will focus on identifying the victim, locating witnesses and gathering evidence to establish who was responsible.
