Security Minister Martín Arrau ruled out classifying Juan Aliste Vega's funeral as high risk, according to BioBioChile. He made the announcement after chairing another police committee meeting, the outlet reported.

Aliste Vega, a former member of the armed group Movimiento Juvenil Lautaro, died on Sunday. Six days earlier, he had requested a humanitarian pardon from President José Antonio Kast. The request divided the Republican Party and reopened the debate over pardons within the governing coalition.

At the same meeting, Arrau reviewed the security legislative agenda. He mentioned the bill on rules on the use of force (RUF), which sets out when and how police can act. He also referred to extending the period for arrests in flagrante delicto, meaning the time during which a detainee can be considered to have been caught committing a crime.

The minister also highlighted what he described as a historic budget for police and the prison service. The source does not specify amounts or percentage increases, so it cannot be compared with previous years.

Arrau warned that it would be an important week because of several commemorations. Among them is October 18, the anniversary of the 2019 social uprising, which falls next weekend. According to the minister, police coordination is already in place to maintain public order and prevent situations that directly affect the public.

The minister also provided information about crimes in recent hours. He mentioned shootings in Puente Alto, San Joaquín and La Florida, which he described as quite violent incidents.

According to Arrau, a pattern of police activity has developed recently. He said the government is taking steps to remove weapons from circulation and pursue those responsible. For now, the perpetrators remain unidentified.

The next test for the police deployment will come on Saturday, October 18, the seventh anniversary of the social uprising.
