A 25-year-old Chilean man was left in life-threatening condition after being shot at least twice in the chest at around 3:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, in Puente Alto, in the Metropolitan Region. The attack occurred as he left a suspected illegal party.

According to La Tercera, the incident occurred at the intersection of La Serena Avenue and the street that the outlet identifies as Armador Negme. Emol, by contrast, names it Amador Neghme. Preliminary information indicates that the party had apparently been promoted on social media.

Prosecutor Sergio Ortega, of the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office’s Organized Crime and Homicide Team (ECOH), explained that the young man was leaving when an argument broke out at the entrance to the venue.

After the altercation, a vehicle arrived. One of its occupants, a man who has yet to be identified, got out with a firearm and shot the victim.

Friends and relatives took the injured man to Padre Hurtado Hospital, where he was admitted in life-threatening condition. When the ECOH Prosecutor’s Office carried out its initial investigative work, the young man was still undergoing surgery.

At the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, detectives from the Investigative Police’s (PDI) Homicide Brigade and experts from the Forensic Laboratory worked at the scene. The investigative work includes collecting ballistic evidence, reviewing security cameras and locating witnesses.

The sources differ on the possible motive. Emol reported that the victim has a criminal record and that a settling of scores has not been ruled out, although several hypotheses are being considered. Speaking to La Tercera, Ortega said there was still no information establishing a motive: "In principle, it is a theory we cannot rule out, but at least at this point we do not have that information".

Regarding the party, the prosecutor clarified that its suspected illegal status remains preliminary information. He added that the sale of other products at the venue is not part of the investigation.

The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case as attempted homicide, meaning an attempt to kill that was not completed. No arrests have been made so far. The source also does not provide a case number (RUC). The next step is to identify the shooter.
