Two adult men were injured at around 10:00 this Monday in La Florida, in the Metropolitan Region. A group of armed individuals fired at the pickup truck they were in at the intersection of Toledo and Andalucía streets.
The preliminary information comes from Carabineros and was reported by BioBioChile and La Tercera. According to police, the victims were inside a Ford F-150 pickup truck when an undetermined number of individuals arrived on foot carrying firearms.
The attackers fired several shots at the vehicle. One of the occupants suffered a bullet graze to the neck and his life is not in danger. The second man sustained a blow to the head. The sources do not report which medical facility they were taken to or the second injured man's current condition.
After the attack, those responsible fled. So far, no arrests have been made, and the attackers' identities and whereabouts remain unknown, as do the circumstances and motive behind the incident.
BioBioChile reported that one of the injured men has a record for small-scale drug dealing and carrying a weapon. That information alone does not establish a connection to the attack, whose causes are under investigation.
Carabineros officers went to the scene to carry out initial inquiries and secure evidence. The case is at an early stage. There are still no formally accused individuals, meaning people to whom the Prosecutor's Office formally attributes participation in the crime.
A woman who lives in the area told Radio Bío Bío that other robberies and shootings have occurred there. "Here, peace and quiet, I mean, there is no peace and quiet," she said. She said residents had installed chains and taken other measures to make escapes more difficult, although the problem continues.
The next step depends on the Public Prosecutor's Office. Carabineros is awaiting instructions from the Prosecutor's Office to learn which police unit will take charge of the investigation.
