President José Antonio Kast's approval rating fell three points to 27%, according to T13, which reported the results of the latest Criteria poll. The company conducted the survey through an online panel on October 8 and 9, 2026.

In the same poll, the president's disapproval rating rose four points to 64%. Another 9% of respondents said they did not know how to assess him, down one point from the previous poll.

Criteria's polling series shows how assessments have changed since the government took office. During his first four weeks, Kast averaged 44% approval. Over the past four weeks, that average fell to 29%.

That is a decline of 15 points in seven months. The drop comes as the government discusses the 2027 Budget with its partners. In recent weeks, La Moneda also shelved the constitutional reform on security, one of Kast's main campaign promises.

The survey also asked about expectations before the government took office. 82% said its performance had fallen short of expectations, while only 18% said the administration had exceeded their expectations.

Responses vary according to respondents' votes in the first round. Among those who voted for Kast, more respondents said the government had exceeded expectations than said the opposite. T13's report does not provide exact percentages for that group.

The breakdown points to a problem for La Moneda beyond its most loyal supporters. According to Criteria, the largest relative declines in approval are among those who voted for Franco Parisi, the former candidate of the People's Party (PDG), and Evelyn Matthei, the Chile Vamos candidate.

Both groups of voters proved decisive in Kast's victory in the runoff. Their parties are now negotiating the 2027 Budget. National Renewal (RN) is calling for social benefits to be protected, and the PDG is demanding that the government explain the US$ 6,000 million in savings Kast promised during his campaign.

The Criteria poll adds to criticism from the opposition. Camila Vallejo, the previous government's former spokesperson, accused Kast of failing to fulfill his promises seven months after taking office. The administration's next test will be the passage of the 2027 Budget through Congress.
