An 18-year-old man and a 39-year-old man were shot dead on the afternoon of Friday, October 9, in Cerro Navia, in the Metropolitan Region. A teenager, whose identity has not been released, was injured in the same attack.

According to Emol, the attack occurred at the intersection of Rodas Street and Niasa Lane. Unidentified attackers traveling in vehicles fired at a group of people in the street. All three victims are Chilean.

Cooperativa placed the shooting at Rodas and Resbalón and initially reported only one death. The difference in the number of victims may be because the second death occurred later, at the hospital.

The 18-year-old died at the scene. The 39-year-old was taken to Félix Bulnes Hospital, where he died. The teenager was taken to the same hospital and underwent surgery. According to Emol, his life was no longer in danger.

On X, the account of the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office’s Organized Crime and Homicide Team (ECOH) reported that one of the victims was shot several times while riding a motorcycle.

The case was assigned to ECOH and the Homicide Brigade (BH) of the Investigative Police (PDI). Both teams conducted forensic examinations at the intersection where the attack occurred and at the hospital.

Juan Zerené, a BH commissioner, said the two men who died had multiple gunshot wounds. He added that detectives collected extensive ballistic evidence at the scene.

ECOH prosecutor Rocío Cubillos confirmed that the attackers fled in vehicles. The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a possible settling of scores between rival gangs or a struggle for territorial control of drug trafficking. The sources report no arrests.

Cerro Navia Mayor Mauro Tamayo told Cooperativa that the municipality has recorded 14 homicides in 2026, more than in the whole of the previous year. "I don’t know what they’re waiting for to take concrete action," he said, recalling that he had met with the President and Minister of Public Security Martín Arrau.

The case remains under investigation, with no suspects identified. The next step is to analyze the ballistic evidence collected by the PDI.
