Police arrested two males aged 18 and 17 and a 16-year-old girl over the robbery of a delivery truck involving threats. The incident occurred at 10:45 on Wednesday, October 14, in San Bernardo, in the Metropolitan Region.
According to T13, citing police information, the driver and his companion were delivering goods at the intersection of Santa Mercedes and Quebrada Las Vizcachas. At that moment, a group threatened them with an object that looked like a pistol and took the truck and its cargo.
After the robbery was reported, officers from the 42nd Radio Patrol Station, who were patrolling under the Streets Without Violence Plan, began searching. They located the suspects at Santa Mercedes and Ernesto Riquelme.
On seeing the officers, the three ran toward an apartment block on Quebrada Las Vizcachas passage. Police entered the building under provisions allowing action in cases of flagrante delicto (when someone is caught committing a crime or immediately afterward) and arrested them. No one was injured.
"Three individuals, two men and a woman, were caught in the act, one of whom was carrying an object at waist level with the characteristics of a firearm," explained Lieutenant Benjamín Sepúlveda of the 42nd Police Station. A local outlet, G5 Noticias, described two women and a man in one passage, but the police quotation and the other outlets refer to two men and a woman.
The object turned out to be a fake pistol, which police seized along with other items linked to the crime. Police also recovered 100% of the cargo, mainly household appliances and technology equipment valued at around $14 million.
After checking their records, police established that one of the detainees had an outstanding arrest warrant for theft by snatching. The sources do not specify which one.
The case is at the arrest stage. The three detainees and the evidence were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, which must decide whether to formally notify them before a judge that they are under investigation for this crime.
