Juan Francisco Crovetto, father of Olympic skeet shooting champion Francisca Crovetto, died on the night of Sunday, October 11. Chilean Olympic Committee (COCh) President Miguel Ángel Mujica confirmed the news this Monday in a conversation with ADN radio.

According to BioBioChile, Mujica said the COCh had been with the athlete and would accompany her throughout the day. "Francisca Crovetto's father died last night. We were with her, and we will be with her at today's wake," the official said. The cause of death is not yet known.

Juan Francisco Crovetto played a key role in his daughter's career. He introduced her to skeet shooting, a shotgun discipline in which the athlete shoots at clay targets launched from two houses. Francisca was 12 years old when she first picked up the gun.

"When she picked up the shotgun for the first time, I immediately realized she had talent. She was 12 years old, but she held the shotgun like the best female shooter in the world," her father had recalled some time ago in an interview with ADN.

According to Cooperativa, Juan Francisco traveled with his daughter to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. There, in August of that year, Francisca won the gold medal in women's skeet. She remains the only Chilean woman with an Olympic gold medal.

The Team Chile athlete ranks among the world's best female shooters in her discipline. Her family and the COCh are with her this Monday, October 12, at her father's wake.
