According to ADN Radio, Health Minister May Chomali pledged funding to repair the Cardenal Raúl Silva Henríquez Family Health Center in Puente Alto. The facility was attacked in the early hours of Friday in the Bajos de Mena area.
"We will provide the resources needed to restore all the infrastructure damaged by this group of criminals," the minister said. She added that those responsible "have crossed the red line."
The minister also announced that the permanent police post, removed more than three months ago, will return. Police protection will also be provided for the duration of the emergency.
However, Chomali acknowledged that these measures do not guarantee that violence will not recur. "Unfortunately, crime has no limits," she said. She expressed hope that the actions would help reduce that risk.
The minister also dismissed the suggestion that the budget cut announced by the government could explain any potential decline in security at the center. According to her account, primary care was not affected by that measure.
Puente Alto Mayor Matías Toledo welcomed the visit but insisted that workers are awaiting a response from the Ministry of Public Security. He requested protection for staff during the six days before an eviction that, he said, will take place within that period. ADN Radio does not specify which eviction he was referring to.
Toledo warned that the family health center will remain closed while the damage is repaired and that there is no certainty it will reopen on Monday. The closure requires appointments to be rescheduled and patients to be referred to other facilities, increasing pressure on the municipal health network.
The municipality will draw up a budget to repair the infrastructure and complete the outstanding protective measures, including reinforcing the entrances with armor plating.
