The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) is maintaining the red alert in the Metropolitan Region and the municipality of Arauco, in the Biobío Region. This is stated in its latest assessment of the frontal system moving across much of the country.

According to La Tercera, the report records rainfall from the Antofagasta Region to the Los Lagos Region. There were also thunderstorms in Maule. Rain is expected this Wednesday mainly between Maule and La Araucanía.

In Arauco, authorities carried out a precautionary evacuation of 152 families from Villa El Mirador because of the risk of landslides associated with the rain. The Presidential Delegation coordinated the residents' departure with the Municipality of Arauco and the police, both to secure the area and to offer accommodation options.

The second mass evacuation took place in Puente Alto. Families left the Valle Hermoso and El Sueño de Todos informal settlements. Of those evacuated, 105 people spent the night at two facilities: 60 at María Magdalena Parish and 45 at the Gandarillas Shelter.

The total number of people in shelters varies by source. The news outlet Pauta reported that the government counts 179 people in shelters nationwide. La Tercera only details the 105 in Puente Alto and does not provide a national total.

Senapred also recorded damage to homes in Lampa, Talagante, Maipú and La Pintana, in the Metropolitan Region, and in municipalities in the Coquimbo, Valparaíso, O'Higgins and Maule regions. The assessment does not specify how many homes were affected.

The rain also forced precautionary road closures. In Taltal, in the Antofagasta Region, Route 1 is closed between kilometers 75 and 172, and Route B-700 is closed between kilometers 13 and 57.

In San José de Maipo, Route G-455 remains closed in the El Yeso Reservoir area, as does Route G-25 in the San Gabriel area. In O'Higgins, Route I-45 in San Fernando is closed in the Termas del Flaco area, as is Ursa Mayor Street at Compañía Avenue in Rancagua.

In Maule, there are road closures in Molina, Curicó and Romeral. Senapred did not say when these stretches would reopen or when it would lift the red alert in the Metropolitan Region and Arauco.
