Argentine press casts doubt on Vozinha's future at Colo Colo after another game on the bench

The 40-year-old Cape Verdean goalkeeper has played three of eleven possible matches and is falling further short of the 50% his contract requires for automatic renewal.

Vozinha was again left on Colo Colo's bench in the 5-2 defeat to Coquimbo Unido, and Argentine sports newspaper Olé is already raising the possibility of his departure from the club. Fernando Ortiz chose Gabriel Maureira over the Cape Verdean goalkeeper as competition resumed after the FIFA international break.

According to La Tercera, Olé ran the headline "Will Vozinha leave Colo-Colo in 2027?" and concluded that "the future does not look promising for Vozinha at the Cacique".

Josimar Dias, known as Vozinha, is 40 years old and arrived in Macul in August after standing out for Cape Verde at the World Cup, where he faced Argentina. The Argentine outlet described his signing as "a football and marketing move".

His contract explains the uncertainty. He signed for six months, with automatic renewal for 2027 if he played at least 50% of the matches in 2026. So far, he has played three of eleven possible matches: one in the Chile Cup and two in the league, with just one goal conceded.

The latest FIFA international break did not help him either. He played two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for his national team and made an error against Mali, according to Olé and ADN Radio.

Ortiz defended his decision at a press conference: "These are decisions and competition. Gabriel's work caught my attention." He added that Maureira, who made an error in the match, "is not to blame; the team simply did not function".

The result in Coquimbo ended a six-month unbeaten run for the league leaders, who remain on top with 54 points, compared with 42 for la U and la UC. According to ADN Radio, citing Olé, Blanco y Negro's management and the coaching staff will assess his situation at the end of the season, when they must plan for 2027.
