A 25-year-old man died on Sunday night after being shot in the head on Aysén Street, in the La Legua neighborhood of the San Joaquín municipality. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the attackers fired from a moving vehicle and then fled.

Emol reported the killing. The information comes from prosecutor Sergio Ortega Obregón and the Investigative Police (PDI). So far, no arrests have been made, and the sources have not released the victim’s identity.

According to prosecutor Ortega, the attack occurred at around 20:45. While the man was in a public street, a white vehicle appeared with several people inside. "Unknown individuals fired approximately 10 shots from the moving vehicle," he told Meganoticias.

Commissioner Cristopher Hidalgo, of the PDI’s Southern Homicide Brigade, said the victim was attacked while outside his home.

The man was seriously injured and taken to the Enrique Molina High-Resolution Emergency Care Service (SAR), where he died minutes later. The prosecutor confirmed this, describing a gunshot wound to the skull.

Given the characteristics of the case, the investigation was assigned to the Prosecutor’s Office’s Organized Crime and Homicide Team (ECOH), a unit specializing in homicides and organized crime offenses. ECOH assigned the investigative work to the PDI’s Southern Homicide Brigade.

The investigation is in its initial stage. There are still no formally accused individuals, meaning people to whom the Prosecutor’s Office formally attributes involvement in the crime. The sources have not reported a possible motive or the case number.

This killing adds to other firearm attacks investigated by the same team in the Metropolitan Region. These include two recent cases in La Florida and Puente Alto, being investigated as attempted homicide.

"Personnel from this unit are working at the scene, gathering the information needed to determine the circumstances and the identities of those involved," Commissioner Hidalgo said. The investigative work aims to identify the occupants of the white vehicle.
