An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 was recorded at 18:31 on Tuesday, October 13, in the Antofagasta Region. The epicenter was located 71.56 kilometers north of Calama.

The information comes from the National Seismological Center (CSN) at the University of Chile, according to CNN Chile. The center placed the hypocenter at a depth of 99.01 kilometers.

The CSN technical report, published on its X account @Sismos_CSN, gives the exact time of the earthquake as 18:31:55. The epicenter's coordinates are latitude -21.84 and longitude -68.77.

Meganoticias, which rounded the distance to 72 kilometers and the depth to 99 kilometers, said that the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) has not reported any injuries or disruptions to basic services following the earthquake. The sources consulted do not mention a tsunami alert, which is expected for an inland epicenter.

The north of the country experiences frequent seismic activity, and earthquakes at intermediate depths like this one tend to be felt less intensely at the surface. During an earthquake, authorities recommend staying calm, keeping away from windows and objects that could fall, and following only the official channels of CSN and Senapred.

As of Tuesday night, no agency had reported damage associated with the earthquake.
