Chilean driver Benjamín Hites was crowned champion in the GT3 Cup 2 category of the Porsche Endurance Trophy, a competition held within the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS, Nürburgring endurance series), in Germany. The final round of the season took place on the Nordschleife, the circuit's northern layout.
According to Cooperativa, Hites drove Black Falcon's Porsche #900 alongside Germans Alexander Hardt and Benjamin Koslowski. The title was decided off the track, by the stewards.
The Porsche #904 of Nico Bastián and Tim Scheerbarth crossed the finish line first, just a few thousandths of a second ahead of the Chilean's car. However, the stewards imposed a one-minute penalty for overtaking under yellow flags, handing the category victory and the championship to the #900.
According to El Periodista, the rival team appealed the decision, but the penalty remained in the provisional results.
The race lasted four hours. Hites started second in his class and completed his stint with the team among the frontrunners before handing the car over to his teammates.
"We are champions at Nürburgring. We kept fighting to be at the front until the final lap," Hites said. The driver added that raising the Chilean flag at the top of the "Green Hell," the Nordschleife's nickname, was a dream come true, "where legends such as Niki Lauda and Juan Manuel Fangio have also won".
This is Hites's third title in Europe. He previously won the International GT Open in 2022 and the Silver class of the GT World Challenge Endurance Cup in 2023. This year, he also won the Nürburgring 24 Hours and 6 Hours in the same category.
This round brought the 2026 NLS season to a close. Only the awards ceremony remains, and the 2027 championship will begin on March 20.
