President José Antonio Kast’s approval fell three percentage points to 27%, according to CNN Chile, which reported the results of the latest Agenda Criteria poll. The survey was conducted on October 8 and 9 through an online panel.
Disapproval rose four points to 64%. Another 9% of respondents said they did not know how to assess the president.
Criteria also compared changes in support since the administration took office. During the government’s first four weeks, average approval was 44%. Over the last four weeks, that average fell to 29%. The difference is 15 points.
The poll also asked how the government’s performance compared with what respondents had expected before Kast’s arrival at La Moneda. 82% said the government had fallen short of their expectations. The remaining 18% said it had exceeded them.
The survey broke down the results by respondents’ declared vote in the first round of the presidential election. According to Criteria, the largest relative declines in Kast’s approval were among those who voted for Franco Parisi, the former candidate of the People’s Party, and Evelyn Matthei, the Chile Vamos candidate. CNN Chile’s report does not provide figures for each of those groups.
The finding carries political weight. These are voters who did not vote for Kast in the first round and whose support the government needed to retain. However, the source provides no information about the reasons for the decline or official reactions from La Moneda.
For now, other media outlets have not independently confirmed these figures. The next Agenda Criteria release will make it possible to check whether the 29% average for the last four weeks continues to fall.
