The National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (Senapred) canceled the Preventive Early Warning in the Metropolitan Region this Saturday, October 24, according to CNN Chile. The measure had been in effect since October 22.
According to the outlet, the decision came after the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) canceled its advisories for the area. The reason was the weakening of the weather conditions.
The DMC had two advisories in place for the region. The first warned of possible thunderstorms, hail and strong wind gusts in the coastal mountain range, the valley, the foothills and the Andes.
The second advisory forecast normal to moderate winds in the coastal mountain range and the Andes. With both advisories canceled, the conditions for maintaining the alert in the capital were no longer met.
According to CNN Chile, Senapred coordinated the cancellation with the Metropolitan Regional Presidential Delegation, the body that represents the government in the region.
Senapred itself reported on X, through its @Senapred account, that the alert for the Metropolitan Region due to a weather event was being canceled, and directed readers to its official channels for more information.
The alert in Santiago coincided with a frontal system that affected several regions of the country this week. Emergency measures remain active in other areas, including the red alert in Arauco due to the risk of mass movement.
