A 15-year-old teenager was shot on the night of Monday, October 12, in the Santa Adriana neighborhood of Lo Espejo. He had taken part in a soccer match and had previously argued with another person. He is in serious condition, but his life is not at risk, at Barros Luco Hospital.
According to CNN Chile, the Southern Homicide Brigade of the Investigative Police (PDI) is investigating the case as an attempted homicide. That legal classification is used when an attack could have caused death, but the victim survived.
Deputy Commissioner Wilson Labra explained that detectives went to Barros Luco after a minor was admitted with a gunshot wound. Their initial inquiries established that the victim had been in the Santa Adriana neighborhood shortly beforehand. He is believed to have been injured there.
Emol reported that the attack occurred on a multipurpose sports court in the area. According to preliminary information from the PDI, the teenager had an altercation with a person who has not yet been identified, who then allegedly shot him.
Labra specified that the suspected shooter is a resident of the area. He added that police are investigating other places the suspect may frequent. So far, the sources have reported no arrests.
The Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office's Organized Crime and Homicide Team (ECOH) also went to Lo Espejo. According to its post on X, the victim's prognosis is guarded, and the investigation is being conducted jointly with the PDI.
The case remains under investigation, and no one has been charged. The teams reviewed security cameras in the area, interviewed witnesses and are analyzing ballistic and biological evidence to reconstruct how the attack occurred and identify the shooter.
