A 17-year-old died from a gunshot wound to the chest on Circunvalación Sur street, in the Cerro 18 area of Lo Barnechea. The attack occurred in the early hours while he was spending time with a group of people after a football match.
According to BioBioChile, an armed man arrived at the scene and shot the teenager. His relatives took him to a healthcare facility. That outlet reported that he died before arriving, while ADN Radio reported that his death was confirmed at Clínica Los Andes.
The case is being handled by the ECOH Prosecutor’s Office (Organized Crime and Homicide Team) and the Metropolitan Homicide Brigade of the Investigative Police (PDI). Prosecutor Enrique Vázquez explained that the victim "was in a public place following a celebration after a football match" and that at least one individual with a firearm shot at him.
The prosecutor added that the attack appeared to have targeted the teenager. His companions were not injured, and all the shots were aimed at him.
The young man had an outstanding arrest warrant. BioBioChile described it as a warrant for homicide. Deputy Prefect José Cáceres, head of the Metropolitan Homicide Brigade, told ADN Radio that it was a February warrant for attempted homicide, meaning an attempt to kill in which the victim survived. The warrant does not imply a conviction, because that case had not gone to trial.
The Prosecutor’s Office is working on the hypothesis that the killing may be linked to that earlier incident. Cáceres said the connection had not been ruled out, but clarified that it remained under investigation. According to the PDI, the teenager lived in the area and was known in the neighborhood.
So far, no arrests have been made and the shooter has not been identified. The PDI is collecting ballistic evidence, locating and interviewing witnesses, and taking statements from relatives and people close to him. It is also reconstructing the young man’s movements before the attack to determine whether events at the match, played a few blocks away, are connected to the homicide.
