President José Antonio Kast offered Chile's assistance to Panama this Friday, according to CNN Chile, after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the Central American country that day.

Kast sent the message through his account on X to his Panamanian counterpart, José Raúl Mulino, president of Panama. In the post, the president sent a "warm embrace of solidarity" to the Panamanian people and expressed his readiness to help and cooperate with whatever the country needs.

The earthquake occurred at 12:56 local time. Its epicenter was 12 kilometers from Tonosí, a town in southern Panama, about 239 kilometers from the capital, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

According to the initial reports cited by CNN Chile, no fatalities had been reported. The source provides no figures for injuries or details of damage to homes or infrastructure.

Kast's offer is, for now, a general statement. The outlet does not report what specific assistance Chile might send or whether the Panamanian government requested international support.

For Chile, one of the world's most seismically active countries, earthquakes of this magnitude are a familiar experience, and its emergency management institutions often serve as a reference in the region. As of publication, the only concrete step is the president's public message, posted on October 10, 2026, pending a response from Mulino.
