A 48-year-old man remains in serious condition after being shot twice on Sunday afternoon on a public street in the Las Higueras area of La Florida (Metropolitan Region). A man who has yet to be identified confronted him and then shot him.

La Tercera reported this, citing the Public Prosecutor’s Office. According to prosecutor Sergio Ortega, the attack occurred at around 15:00, as reported by Meganoticias.

Ortega belongs to the Organized Crime and Homicide Team (ECOH) of the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutor explained that the victim was taking part in a recreational activity with other people when the attacker arrived.

“He was at that location with several people when a man who remains unidentified arrived and, after confronting him, drew a firearm and fired shots at the victim,” Ortega said. According to Meganoticias, the attacker fled after firing.

The man was rushed to La Florida Hospital. He remains there with serious injuries and will undergo surgery. At the time this report was completed, the sources had provided no updates on his condition.

The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case as attempted homicide. This legal classification applies when the perpetrator does everything necessary to kill a person, but the death does not occur. The case is currently under investigation, and no one has been arrested or charged.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the Homicide Brigade and the Forensic Laboratory of the Investigative Police (PDI) to attend the scene. Their task is to establish what happened and identify the shooter.

The sources have not reported a motive for the attack or whether the victim knew his attacker. No case number has been released either (RUC, the Unique Case Number assigned by the Prosecutor’s Office). The next step in the investigation depends on the investigative work the PDI carries out at the scene.
