Former President Michelle Bachelet leads the opposition's preferences ahead of the 2029 presidential election. According to Cadem's Plaza Pública poll, published this Sunday, 41% consider her the best presidential candidate for the center-left and the left.
According to BioBioChile, the poll also ranked her as the leading figure among those parties. When asked who was the sector's main leader, 29% chose Bachelet. She was followed by former President Gabriel Boric, with 19%, and Maipú Mayor Tomás Vodanovic, with 13%.
Her lead narrows within her own electorate. Among those who identify with the center-left and the left, 47% believe Bachelet would be the better candidate, compared with 44% who prefer Boric, according to ADN Radio and Cooperativa. On the leadership question, among that same group, Bachelet stands at 34% and Boric at 32%.
The former president was also the figure of the week, with 37% of mentions. Her positive rating reached 51%, four points higher than in the previous poll. Boric also rose four points, reaching 47%.
The rise comes amid debate over her potential candidacy for the UN (United Nations). Former government spokesperson Camila Vallejo criticized President José Antonio Kast for not supporting her in that process and said a third presidential candidacy would be decided later.
In the overall assessment of public figures, Vodanovic leads with a 60% positive rating. He is followed by Sebastián Sichel and Evelyn Matthei, both with 59%. At the lower end are Guillermo Ramírez (32%), Pamela Jiles (30%) and Communist Party President Lautaro Carmona (24%).
For the government, the figures remain unfavorable. 32% approve of Kast's performance, while disapproval fell one point to 64%. A further 4% did not respond.
The poll, edition No. 697 of Plaza Pública, also asked about the mudslide in Las Condes. 51% believe it could have been avoided if the authorities had acted in advance, while 45% consider it an exceptional event.
