Former government spokesperson Minister Camila Vallejo (PC) has taken over as director of Ruta Continental: Latin American School of Leadership in Social Security. The initiative operates under the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), an international organization based in Mexico.

According to BioBioChile, CISS announced her arrival on social media. The organization said Vallejo had already begun a round of meetings with the teams that will work on the project. According to The Clinic, the appointment comes seven months after she left her role as spokesperson for Gabriel Boric's government.

"Camila's experience and leadership will be key to training, connecting and supporting young people," CISS wrote when introducing her.

CISS was founded in Santiago in September 1942. It is a permanent technical organization that promotes the development of social security in the Americas. It advances cooperation among institutions in member countries, research and training for social protection professionals.

Ruta Continental seeks to train and connect young leaders from the region and provide them with technical tools on social security. According to Vallejo's team, quoted by The Clinic, the program combines material on health, pensions, work and care with tools for leadership and strategic communication.

The first cohort will bring together 50 young people aged 18 to 30 from different Latin American countries. It includes an in-person gathering in Mexico City and 12 months of support. No prior experience in social security is required, although it targets people with a background in political and social participation, rights advocacy, communication or community work.

Since leaving La Moneda, Vallejo has maintained an active regional agenda, attending progressive gatherings in Latin America. BioBioChile also reports that she has sharply criticized José Antonio Kast's government, which she described as Pinochetist and classist, and questioned its budget priorities.

The former minister herself had foreshadowed this shift in remarks to The Clinic. "I am out of the front line, but never out of politics," she said.

Applications for the first cohort opened on October 13 and close on November 5, 2026. CISS announced that it will release further details about the project soon.
