FIFA delegates met this Wednesday the 14th in Quilín with the board of ANFP (National Professional Football Association) and the council of the Chilean Football Federation (FFCh). They set the conditions for separating the two entities, and the meeting ended in an argument between officials.
According to El Mostrador, citing ADN radio, FIFA decided that whoever wins the ANFP election, between Jorge Uauy and Jorge Yunge, will lead only the Chilean League. Youth divisions, amateur football and the other categories will remain outside their control.
The FFCh will remain in the hands of Pablo Milad, the current ANFP president, who will lead the separation process. There are two versions of the timeline: El Mostrador says Milad will stay until 2027, while BioBioChile mentions 2027 but also says he will remain in office until February 28. He must then call a vote to elect his successor.
FIFA also required that the FFCh's new statutes be approved before November 30, so a new board can be elected as soon as possible. According to BioBioChile, the ANFP election is scheduled for November 19.
The division of power triggered the clash. Uauy, a Palestino official and candidate for the ANFP presidency, criticized the conditions set in Zurich, particularly Milad remaining in charge of the Federation. FIFA's representatives replied that their proposal was not up for debate, and the argument escalated.
Cecilia Pérez, president of Universidad de Chile, then intervened to rebuke Uauy for his "desperation" to lead the Federation. La U publicly supports the slate headed by Jorge Yunge, the current ANFP secretary. According to ADN, if Yunge wins, José Luis Navarrete, a former Universidad de Chile president, would join his board.
El Mostrador describes the separation process as facing resistance from intense lobbying by those currently running Chilean football. The remaining timeline is clear: the clubs vote on November 19, and the FFCh statutes must be ready 11 days later.
