Santiago Metro closed the Pedro de Valdivia station on Line 1 this Tuesday, October 13, due to water accumulation inside. Trains passed through without stopping. Salvador station, on the same line, remained open only for passengers to exit.
According to CNN Chile, the company reported the situation at 17:13 on its X account, where it attributed the restrictions to water accumulated during the thunderstorms that affected the capital.
Line 2 was also affected. Metro said service was operating only between Hospital El Pino and Franklin, and between Los Héroes and Vespucio Norte. The Clinic reported that three stations on that line were closed due to water inside, although it did not specify which ones.
Precipitation intensified after 15:00. The rain was accompanied by thunderstorms and, in some parts of the eastern sector, hail, during the working day.
At street level, avenues such as Francisco Bilbao, Vicuña Mackenna, Irarrázaval and Pedro de Valdivia experienced flooding, with vehicles struggling to move through. X users shared images of areas such as the intersections of Bilbao and Pedro de Valdivia, and Bilbao and Inés de Suárez, in Providencia.
The Lira underpass, on Alameda, remained closed because the roadway was flooded. Transporte Informa, the official channel of the Ministry of Transport, urged people to take shelter and avoid the capital's underpasses.
In response, the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) declared a Red Alert for the entire Metropolitan Region due to the weather event. The sources did not report an estimated time for the affected stations to reopen.
