Metro de Santiago, the capital's subway operator, suspended service at ten Line 1 stations on Friday, October 23, due to a medical emergency. Trains are running only between Los Héroes and Los Dominicos, while the western section remains closed.
According to CNN Chile, the company announced the measure at around 10:20. It warned that restoring full service could take more than an hour. Emol, by contrast, reported that the delay could last up to an hour. T13 placed the announcement in the afternoon, but Metro's posts on X show morning times.
The stations without service are San Pablo, Neptuno, Pajaritos, Las Rejas, Ecuador, San Alberto Hurtado, Universidad de Santiago, Estación Central, U.L.A. and República. At 10:27, Metro de Santiago said on X that at Estación Central the transfer to Tren Central, the rail service linking the capital with the south, had been suspended.
The sources gave no details about the person affected or their health condition. Emol reported that specialists were already attending to the emergency.
The closure affects one of the busiest corridors in the network, which runs along the Alameda and connects western comunas (municipalities), such as Lo Prado and Estación Central, with downtown Santiago.
Red Movilidad, the capital's public transit bus system, added extra service on routes along the Alameda between San Pablo and Los Héroes. The reinforced services are 412, 106, 401, 405, 418, 419, 421, 423, 424, 516, 210, 210v and 210e. The company also asked passengers to plan their trips.
At 10:33, Metro de Santiago posted an alternative route on X for those traveling east from San Pablo: take Line 5, transfer to Line 1 at Baquedano and continue to Los Dominicos. As of this writing, the company had not announced the reopening of the closed section.
