Peñalolén Mayor Miguel Concha alleged that the National Professional Football Association (ANFP), the body that brings together professional clubs and organizes Chilean football tournaments, has operated in the municipality since 2010 without a municipal business license. The association has its headquarters at 5635 Quilín Avenue.
According to La Tercera, the mayor maintains that ANFP also owes waste collection fees associated with the property. The Clinic also reported the allegation on October 15.
According to records from the municipality's Administration and Finance Department, the debt could reach $172 million. The amount includes accumulated obligations and the adjustments, interest and fines stipulated by current regulations.
"In Peñalolén, the rules are the same for everyone. It is unacceptable for an institution of this size to have operated in our municipality for so many years and left municipal obligations unpaid for decades, while our honest local business owners meet their obligations," Concha said.
The mayor added that the municipality would continue conducting inspections and collecting payments "regardless of who is involved." He explained that this revenue is needed to fund security, healthcare, waste collection and other basic needs of families in the municipality.
The sources consulted do not include a response from ANFP to the allegation. Nor do they detail how the amount is divided between business license fees and waste collection fees.
Concha announced that ANFP would receive a collection notice in the coming weeks. Once it pays what it owes, the association will have to complete the municipal procedures to formalize its operations in the municipality.
