The mudslide that struck parts of Las Condes in the Metropolitan Region on Thursday afternoon, October 8, left an estimated 384 people affected, 1,000 evacuees and six people injured. There are no deaths, missing people or people stranded.

The figures come from the latest assessment by the Metropolitan Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred), the government agency that coordinates the state's emergency response. CNN Chile published the report.

According to Senapred, the number of people affected is an estimate based on homes with major damage or those destroyed. The agency counted 56 homes destroyed, 40 with major damage and 1,960 with minor damage. In total, 2,056 properties were affected.

During the emergency, rescue teams brought 1,200 people out of vehicles, homes, service stations and other facilities in the municipality.

Water and mud mainly affected Camino El Alba to the north, Quebrada Honda Sur, General Blanche and western Vital Apoquindo. The flow spread eastward along the municipality's mountain interface, meaning the area where neighborhoods border the foothills.

The risk is not limited to Las Condes. Since October 8, Senapred has maintained a Red Alert for mass movements in San José de Maipo, Puente Alto, Pirque, La Florida, Peñalolén, La Reina, Las Condes, Lo Barnechea, Vitacura and Colina. The Regional Yellow Alert for a weather event, declared on October 6, also remains active.

On the ground, firefighters are working with 150 personnel and 14 pieces of machinery, while the Ministry of Public Works is providing another 38 machines. The Army deployed 170 troops from the Military Police Regiment and 11 MOWA vehicles. The Investigative Police (PDI) reported the participation of 120 personnel and 40 vehicles.

They are joined by 900 volunteers registered and accredited by the Municipality of Las Condes. The sources do not specify donation channels, so anyone wishing to help must first obtain accreditation through the municipality.

The Regional Health Secretariat is coordinating the setup of mobile hepatitis and tetanus vaccination sites for emergency teams and affected residents.

Las Condes has been designated a Disaster Zone since Thursday, October 8. Senapred said the measure will remain in effect for as long as emergency conditions require.
