More than 100 volunteers were clearing mud in Las Condes at 09:00, according to BioBioChile, as part of the municipal response to the mudslide that hit the municipality in the Metropolitan Region last Thursday. Mayor Catalina San Martín outlined how crews would be deployed, preventive vaccination and the operation of basic services.

The municipality identified two critical areas. The first comprises three residential complexes with 60 flooded homes on Santa Isidora and Santa Laura streets. "We have three residential complexes that are badly flooded," the mayor explained.

The second group of volunteers will head to Camino El Alba. There, according to San Martín, "we also have many affected homes." The source does not specify how many homes were damaged in that area or whether any residents have been displaced from their homes.

Alongside mud removal, the mayor announced a mobile vaccination clinic for volunteers, provided by the Municipality of San Miguel. The aim is to protect them against cuts or contact with sewage during the work. "It is important to be prepared," said San Martín, who thanked that municipality for its support.

A second vaccination site will operate at Claro Arena, Universidad Católica's stadium in San Carlos de Apoquindo, until 14:00.

The mayor also addressed essential services. She said that garbage collection had resumed in all areas and that, wherever trucks cannot enter, "they will go on foot to collect it."

The BioBioChile report does not detail a specific channel for affected residents to request help or sign up as volunteers. The outlet said it was continuing to gather information about the emergency.
