Most schools in Ñuñoa, Providencia and Las Condes are resuming classes this Thursday, October 15. Classes were suspended on Wednesday because Tuesday's heavy rains flooded parts of those municipalities.

According to Emol, 15 schools and preschools are reopening in Ñuñoa. The list includes Benjamín Claro Velasco School, José Toribio Medina, Lenka Franulic, Brígida Walker, Carmela Silva Donoso and Augusto D'Halmar high schools, and both campuses of República de Siria High School.

Also reopening in Ñuñoa are Eduardo Frei Montalva, Guillermo Zañartu Irigoyen and Juan Moya Morales schools, Kallfü Mapu Intercultural School, República Argentina Bicentennial Technical and Vocational School, Hellen Keller and Amapolas schools, and Naranjitas Preschool.

Another six schools and preschools in the municipality will reopen on Monday, October 19: José Toribio Medina Primary School, República de Francia and República de Costa Rica schools, Aurora de Chile School, and Manzanilla and Caballito Azul preschools. According to CNN Chile, the suspension aimed to protect school communities because many of the facilities sustained damage.

In Providencia, Mayor Jaime Bellolio said the schools had already been cleaned, except for three: El Vergel School, El Aguilucho Preschool and Abelardo Iturriaga Language School. "All the others, the other eight schools and high schools, will hold classes tomorrow," he told Cooperativa.

Bellolio added that the municipality's family health centers (Cesfam) are already seeing patients. The exceptions are Andacollo Community Family Health Center (Cecosf) and the ProviSalud pharmacy in Los Leones. The municipality is also continuing work to restore services such as driver's license processing.

In Las Condes, private schools that did not hold classes on Wednesday are reopening. They include San Francisco del Alba, Scuola Italiana Vittorio Montiglio, Wenlock, Cordillera de Las Condes, William Kilpatrick, Cumbres, Nuestra Señora del Loreto and San Nicolás de Myra.

The only private school in Las Condes that will not reopen is Redlan, located in the so-called "ground zero" of last week's mudslide. Municipal schools in Las Condes will remain closed, and the sources do not indicate a reopening date.
