San Luis de Quillota took the lead in the Promotion League (Primera B) this Monday. The team beat Deportes Puerto Montt 0-1 away, with a goal from Fabián Pastenes in the 13th minute of the first half.
According to BioBioChile, the win allowed Humberto "Chupete" Suazo's team to capitalize on Cobreloa's defeat against Copiapó, which beat the team from Loa 2-1 in the north. The outlet added that the Canaries had reached five consecutive wins.
The move that led to the goal began with a through ball. Pastenes received it and finished first time, according to TNT Sports Chile's description on X. That early lead was enough for San Luis to control the rest of the match in the south.
With the win, the team from Quillota reaches 50 points, two more than Cobreloa and four more than Magallanes, according to ADN Radio. Deportes Antofagasta and Santiago Wanderers have 44 and are further out of contention.
The title race remains open, with three rounds left before the 2026 season ends. San Luis's lead over Cobreloa amounts to less than a match's worth of points, so any slip could change the standings.
Suazo, a former Chile national team striker, has his team on a winning streak at a key moment in the championship. The sources provide no further details about the course of the match or statements afterward.
In round 28, San Luis will face Magallanes, its closest challenger after Cobreloa. According to ADN Radio, that match will be away in Santiago. Deportes Puerto Montt, meanwhile, will travel to Arica to play San Marcos.
