Chilean forward Gonzalo Tapia scored a header and provided an assist in Columbus Crew's 2-0 away win over FC Cincinnati in the Ohio derby in MLS (Major League Soccer, the league in the United States and Canada). The match was part of Eastern Conference matchday 30.
According to BioBioChile, the former Universidad Católica player opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. He arrived unmarked at the far post on a corner kick and headed home. Cooperativa places the goal in the 21st minute and describes it as a diving header in the six-yard box.
La Tercera specifies that the cross came from a corner taken by Spain's Brais Méndez and that Tapia met the ball squarely with his forehead. It was his second MLS goal. He had scored his first in early September in the 3-0 rout of Colorado Rapids.
In the second half, Tapia broke free of his marker and set up Taha Habroune to make it 0-2. Cooperativa records that goal in the 53rd minute and La Tercera in the 54th.
The club highlighted his performance on social media. Columbus Crew posted on X that Tapia was the player of the match after recording a goal and an assist in his first derby against Cincinnati, known as Hell is Real.
The result gave the Crew their second consecutive win and left them in eleventh place with 35 points. They are one point behind Cincinnati, who hold the final Eastern Conference playoff spot with 36. Alexis Sánchez's CF Montreal are in the same conference and sit at the bottom of the table.
Columbus have four matches remaining to reach the postseason, according to Cooperativa.
