Coquimbo Unido and O'Higgins now have a date and stadium for the League Cup final. They will face each other on Saturday, November 14 at Santa Laura Stadium, in the municipality of Independencia. This is the third scheduled date for a match originally due to be played in July.
Cooperativa Deportes PM reported the new date. Speaking to ADN Radio, the presidential delegate for the Metropolitan Region, Germán Codina, confirmed that he had accepted the request from the ANFP (National Professional Football Association). "We think it's an excellent date; we have no objections. We just need to adjust the conditions and the attendance capacity at Santa Laura," he said.
Attendance capacity is the only approval still pending. According to Cooperativa, a maximum of 10 thousand spectators is expected for the clash between the Pirates and the Sky Blues.
The stakes justify the wait. The winner will become the tournament's first champion and claim the Chile 3 berth in the 2027 Copa Libertadores.
The final has already been moved twice. The first date was set for July in Valparaíso, according to ADN, and was canceled because of the weather front forecast for central Chile. The second was scheduled for this Friday at Claro Arena. Cooperativa gives that date as Friday, October 16, while ADN gives October 18.
That second option fell through because of last week's mudslide in Las Condes and the effects of the weather front. According to ADN, regional authorities also ruled out playing at Santa Laura that same Friday. The ANFP then resumed negotiations with the Presidential Delegation until a new date was set.
The calendar helps. On the weekend of November 14, the First Division will be on a break for the FIFA international window, when La Roja will face Colombia in friendlies on Friday the 13th and Tuesday the 17th. The final will thus be played four months after the original date.
