Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha will not play against Palestino on October 25. That day, he will travel to London to attend the Ballon d'Or ceremony, where he is nominated for the Yashin Trophy, the award for the year's best goalkeeper.
According to BioBioChile, citing Cooperativa, the 40-year-old goalkeeper must be at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26. His absence could extend to the match against Universidad de Concepción, scheduled for November 1.
TNT Sports added another concern: Colo Colo would be without him in a potential Chile Cup semifinal against O'Higgins. That two-legged tie would be played between the second and third weeks of November.
The underlying problem is contractual. According to La Tercera, Josimar Ébora Dias signed a six-month contract with an automatic one-year renewal clause if he plays 50% of the minutes. Every match he misses takes him further from that target.
Vozinha joined Colo Colo after standing out at the 2026 World Cup in North America. His performances against Spain, Uruguay and Argentina earned him a place in FIFA's team of the tournament, selected by popular vote. Colo Colo celebrated his debut on August 27 on its X account.
On the pitch, however, coach Fernando Ortiz has started him on only three occasions and has preferred young goalkeeper Gabriel Maureira. After the heavy defeat against Coquimbo Unido, the coach spoke of "decisions and competition" and defended Maureira, saying the entire team had failed to perform.
Adding to this are the mistakes Vozinha made with Cape Verde during the latest FIFA international window, which also raised doubts about his form, according to La Tercera.
While his playing future remains uncertain, his commercial profile is growing. Adidas Chile introduced him as its new brand ambassador. María Paz Delgado, the company's senior director of brand activation, highlighted his story of "effort, perseverance and overcoming adversity".
Colo Colo is in the race for its 35th title and needs to recover from the setback in Coquimbo. Asked about the goalkeeper staying on for 2027, Aníbal Mosa, president of Blanco y Negro (the concessionaire that runs the club), replied: "We will not make any statement on that until the championship is over".
