Residents of Maipú reported that unidentified people fired automatic weapons into the air on Wednesday night in the area of Maipú Avenue, near El Carmen Hospital. According to residents, some bullets entered homes through the roofs and ended up on beds and in other areas.

BioBioChile published the information, gathering accounts that residents shared on social media. Meganoticias also reported on the case and placed the bullet strikes at homes in the Villa San Luis area.

According to residents, the gunfire was accompanied by drumming and fireworks. Both outlets indicate that the events may have been related to the anniversary of the death of a football supporter, meaning a member of a football club's supporters' group. Neither source identifies the club or the deceased person.

The sources report no injuries. They also do not specify how many homes were hit or the exact date of the Wednesday when the events occurred.

According to BioBioChile, police arrived at the scene after receiving more than 100 calls, but did not find those responsible for the gunfire. So far, no one has been arrested or charged.

The available sources do not include a statement from the Public Prosecutor's Office or indicate whether it has opened an investigation into the events. There is also no official police statement beyond what the outlet reported.

The next reported step is a review of security camera footage from the area to identify those who fired the shots.
